    Ask an Australian what they think of this system. It's rather ironic that we would rather use the current UK system.

    http://www.fcpp.org/pdf/australia_alternative_vote.pdf discusses some of the oddities of the AV as used in Australia (although it's not impartial).

    Like the expenses scandal turned the public off politics in the UK, the last election did here. It was effectively decided by 2 independants who won their seats because of preference votes from Liberal. But after behind door talks backed Labor against the electorate wishes because of a better deal for themselves.

    What happens if a voter has no preference for a certain party what so ever? Usually the winner is the party who are least disliked, rather than most preferred.
